Public servants told: Be more professional

Funny Barbados News BlogLocal civil servants are being encouraged, to demonstrate a greater level of professionalism, when interacting with each other and the general public. This suggestion comes from director of public sector reform, Michael archer. He made the comments at a presentation ceremony for court marshals. This following a two-week training workshop in public sector excellence. Mr. Archer stressed that it is critically important, that they demonstrate a level of professionalism, based on transparency, accountability and integrity, regardless of the numerous challenges they may encounter daily. Mr. Archer says management too has a part to play, in the reformation of service delivery, noting that they need to treat workers, with a greater level of respect. He believes that too often the good work of the majority in the public service, is sullied by the poor work ethics of the minority. Source: CBC Evening News, Barbados
This should read "Public Servants told to stop behaving like dem mek duhselves!". Professional? Schupes, dem does spend money to advertise things on TV, a workshop, a course etc... then when you call to ask a question, dem treating you like you begging dem for salt. But the bottom line is that dem just ain't k. It dont affect dem salary and dem know dem can't get fire suh easy, or it is a protest or a sick out and de union in yuh back. There is no competition, and where there is competition, dem aint k if you go there. If you go to a bank and it is crowded, the security guard gine come with a big smile, speak to you softly and politely let you know where to stand up in de line to keep it orderly... a government place now, "guh hey! move dey! you can't stand up dey! part you feel you is?" :| Human Resources like dem does hire monkeys for these jobs. But I suppose they would behave professionally if there were actually professional.. as opposed to being the illiterate brother in law of the janitor who twigging the manager's sister. I wonder what the interview process is like... Sir, do you breathe? Yes, I breathe a lot... GREAT! You are hired!
