Too many still not paying road taxes and drivers' license

Funny Barbados News BlogDue the increase in the number of vehicles on local roads, the Licensing Authority collected just over $41 million, during the period April 2005 to February 2006. According to Senator Patricia Parris, while this revenue will go a long way in assisting Government with its various road repair programmes, there are still hundreds of vehicle owners on the road that have not paid their road taxes or drivers' licences. Some are in arrears to the Barbados Licensing Authority for two to three years or even longer, she says.
Senator Parris, while making her contribution to the 2006 Appropriation Bill in the Upper House, commented on the fact that within a matter of hours at times, two vehicles can be seen on the road, with the same registration number. While stating that there may be genuine cases where persons may forget to pay their road taxes for two days or so, she argued that to forget to do so for up to two to three years or longer, was certainly not good enough. To top things off, some persons not paying fees are driving around cars with expensive fancy rims and the latest and loudest in sound equipment, the senator stated. She therefore had a word for offenders and the Licensing Authority as well. Source: Barbados Advocate Newspaper News
Blah blah blah... come on man.. they dont FORGET to pay the fees for 3 years... dem just aint paying it! That's like forgetting to pay rent and play you looking puzzled when you come home at 2am one morning and find your georgie bundle at the door and the locks changed. I saw a London advert about this same thing... men reason that when you don't pay your road tax dem aint even bothering to look in the car parks, nor peeping bout on windshields to see.. dem looking in the computer. And if dem find out that the last time you paid was over a year ago, *WHACKS*, dem automatically lashing you with a hefty 80 pound fine... right in your mailbox. Tsk tsk tsk.. yet again so many problems can be so easily solved. I didn't even realise the drivers' licence fee was due at the end of your birth month, so you can remember it! Well, i actually got my licence IN my birth month, so that would never occur to me. But that's a good concept... for anybody getting married, get married on your wife's birthday. You would never forget since there are 2 major occasions on the same day, and yuh gine save some money. Give her ONE card, and ONE gift... and if she cuss you, ONE slap. *just kidding... JUST KIDDING!* But i guess people just vex... $41 million and the roads still got more craters than Jupiter... i suppose after having to repair so many shocks and steering assemblies, it gives you a sudden case of road tax amnesia. But of course people gine find money to buy bling bling alloy rims and a big MP3 set for the car... why pay taxes when you can ride on dubs, blast 50cent at 3 in the morning and shake the glasses and plates in somebody cupboard... cheee. I always wondered tho.. if your licence or road tax is expired... can you DRIVE up to the Barbados Licensing Authority to pay it, or will you be charged and fined at the gate?

*After reading this post, 238 persons will neglect to pay their road tax. However, they will receive $1,824.38 from government because they REMEMBERED to file their income tax... apparently, there is NO link between the 2.
