Duty free clamp down

Funny Barbados News BlogGovernment is moving to stamp out an apparent duty free racket in Barbados. It has embarked on a thorough investigation of the duty free sector, with a view to eliminating certain illegal practices. To this end, government has met with the operators of six major duty free shops on Broad Street. At that meeting government officials alleged that a small number of people appear intent on breaking the law, by colluding with store employees to allow Barbadians access to duty free prices, to which they are not entitled. Sources say government believes it is losing millions of dollars in revenue and wants the practice halted. Source: www.CBC.bb
Has any bajan EVER travelled and benefitted from REAL duty free prices in another country? I ain't talking about airports where they take off the 20% duties and add on 200% markup, I mean real real duty free. I went T&T once... went into a store, got some stuff, gone to the cashier and reason that I am a foreigner so I want the stuff duty free. Well, after they recovered from laffing and the stitches in their sides wore off, i was finally sold the stuff at full price. But all kinda people does come and benefit from the goodies that Barbados has to offer, while Bajans gotta deal wid VAT, DUTY Tax, CESS Tax, Levy Tax, Wax Palax, Bruggadown Brax... But this is a real TOURIST island fuh trute... For instance, for tourists, we accept credit cards for anything at all.. it could cost a cent or a million dollars. But in Britain and Canada, you have to PAY for the privilege of using plastic. One time in Toronto, i whipped out the all powerful VISA to buy something to eat. De man tell me dem don't accept credit cards... that time de food did cost about $20 Canadian and luckily I had a US$20 bill on me... man gine look at me and tell me bout how he can't remember the exchange rate, so assume $1US is equal to $1CAN. :| Err... how about i assume your head is a baseball and my fist is a bat...

I wonder how dem gine stop it though. Every year bajan yankees does come down and take their family to town to get stuff off the Duty Free santa clause, I aint see nuttin wrong wid dat. I guess the authorities gine gotta discern who is who. If the person is female, fat, got on nuff make up and wearing an all jeans outfit with an extravagant hair style, she is back to help out her family.. give her a break. If it is a man wearing a basketball shirt, a basketball pants, basketball shoes, white socks and a sweat band... arrest him!

*After reading this post, 138 will try to clear some DVDs at customs.... when they realize that the combined tax and shipping cost more than the actual DVDs, they will remove their glasses so the government can have full and unrestricted access to JUCK OUT dem eyes.
