CAR CRIES

Funny Barbados News BlogUSED-CAR DEALERS want the Customs Department to release more than 100 vehicles from the Bridgetown Port, pending the outcome of investigations into alleged under-invoicing. Noel Euzebe, chief spokesman for the Used Car Dealers' Association, said yesterday he was not opposed to investigations being carried out by Customs. "Our position is not that the investigation should be called off, but that they should not ruin small people. The Customs Department has discretionary powers that in the event where the investigation is dragging on, it could release the vehicles to the importers and continue the investigation for as long as it likes. "In the event that it finds evidence of fraud, it can return to the importer and impose the sanction," he said. He added that in some cases vehicles were being held for more than two months.... He recalled that several years ago, the business of a leading used-car dealer went belly-up after cars he had imported were held by Customs for an extended period. Euzebe said the dealer was then asked to pay $500 000 in storage tax even though no sanctions had been imposed following investigations. Source: Nation News
The MIGHTY CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT! A law unto themselves, to which there is NO apparent redress. Dem holding hundreds of cars for over 2 months and investigating, and according to Euzebe, even if they dont find anything wrong and do eventually release the cars, they charge for storage! Imagine that! Good thing cars don't expire... cuz by the time dem get release yuh would find bicycles and skateboards. I wouldn't advise anybody to import any diabetes medicine boh, next thing there is a 'problem' and you end up in a wheel chair and missing 4 fingers before you get the tablets with moss and cobwebs on dem. But why is the investigation taking so long? They know where the cars were bought, they know who bought them... dem waiting on a black bird from the sky to whisper something in dem ear? What takes 2 months really? Of course the car buyers are out of pocket and can't make a cent... but if dem go up in the heights and terraces to theif now, yuh gine hear how dem should get lock up. HOWEVER... you done know these car dealers barely cutting corners and saying dem only pay $2,000 when de car really cost about $9,000. Can't blame them tho.. with 200% duty, i would say it cost 10cent, all the while trying to conceal the 2 little red horns growing on my head. Thing is de men reason de customs tek the duties money, and THEN refused to release the cars. Ok, so you charging me duties on a price you think is fake, taking my money, then investigating? Customs hear boy... almost like getting a US VISA... depending on whose wife treating dem good, yuh gine get through, but aas de sugar cake getting hold back, dem gine crush yuh. Nuttin you can do... except bang your head repeatedly against a wall and hope God himself intevenes... either that or find out who the custom officer's wife is, and get your revenge! :D

*After reading this post, 54 persons will import identical products. 50 of them will get juck.. the other 4 will get thru cuz de customs officer dat deal wid dem got some sweet jucks the night before.
