Teen charged with computer misuse

A teenager from St. Philip has become the first person in Barbados to be charged under the year-old Computer Misuse Act. Nineteen-year-old Niko Elias Ramdin of Rices, appeared in court today before Magistrate Valton Bend. Ramdin is charged with sending an electronic communication of an obscene nature to a female on August 29 2005. When he appeared in court, today the case was adjourned until June 9 and he was granted bail in the sum of 3,500 dollars, with one surety. Elias was arrested under Section 14 Clause A of the Computer Misuse Act that came into force in March last year. The offence carries a penalty on conviction of a ten thousand dollar fine or twelve months in prison...the legislation makes it an offence to send any person a message or letter that can be indecent and obscene.

:| What I hearing at all. What is "obscene" communication? And how the boy manage to send it to she without her accepting and opening in? Dah time she was probably on de computer and begging de boy to show she de shaft, wid one hand on the mouse and she other hand in the cat... mums walk in, and all a sudden she crying foul, like she is saint Mary, being perverted and demoralized. That mean now when I get a forward with a subject that say: "FWD: Bajans at it again - The girl in the black does work at FCIB.", i can call the police.. well, after reading it of course, just to make sure. This is a real serious thing tho... what is classed as 'obscene'? I got a pic emailed to me from this fat poxy girl once... it nearly mek me puke! She had her clothes on, but that didn't stop my stomach from doing a back flip... she coulda get loss way in prison for dat. Does it include obscene language as well? Can't curse nobody on MSN now.. that is the equivalent of you writing a letter and posting it to them, riddle with curse words bout dem mudda and signing your name at the bottom. I wonder what kind of research they did to charge the boy. If I get vex, i gine find an 'obscene' image and put it in the My Received Files folder and call somebody name, or create an email called O_Arthur@hotmail.com and send some obscene photos to S_Campbell@yahoo.com. $10,000 or 1 year in prison boy... that's hard. When i saw this news title, i thought the boy had embezzled a million dollars from Scotia Bank and transferred to his Swiss account. Misuse?? Boy, if yuh can't engage in a little peep show on the computer, what can you do.. work? Yea, cuz i need a web cam to finish calculate my income tax. Good thing I does operate on a small deserted island with a dell laptop under a coconut tree, tapping into an unmonitored international satellite connection.

*After reading this post, 722 persons will receive obscene photos in their hotmail. They will call the police, but the charges will be dropped when the detectives spot the same photo printed out on glossy paper next to a bottle of baby oil and Kleenex.
