Partying 'ruins respect for Lent'
Well, while you're at it, why don't you shut down all Old Year's Night fetes and ban Christmas parties so people can attend mass... and let the doomed secular pagans party in January. Ridiculous.. buddy, if you want persons to attend church, preach the gospel and convince them. He really feel that if persons weren't attending Spektakula, dem woulda be observing lent? Just cuz the government in Trinidad does stop the partying don't mean that the actual residents observe anything... but wait, you aint interested in that... so long as it LOOKS good, it's alright. Nuff face watchers... de man heart could be black like between a fat woman legs or deceitful like Martha Stuart, so long as de church pack, and people playing de church part, all is well. If so many people were as devoted as he would like to believe, then they would boycott the event and the government would then be forced to change the date, and the assembly halls would be burst way. Next thing he will want to send police to my house to remove any semblence of meat from my plate on Ash Wednesday, cause the sweet aroma might be disturbing my religious next door neighbours... but if he touch my honey and mustard glazed lamb shanks at all, he fingers gine get chop off! These people need to stop forcing the issue, and let each person freely choose what path they want to take. What really is his solution? To put a gun to a man's head, drag he to church on the back of a tour bus, staple his pants to a bench and then brag about how devoted he is? Then when de same man breed his 15 year old daughter, he gine be preaching "All have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God".Complaining that entertainers from Trinidad and Tobago were contributing to the abuse of the Lenten season in Barbados, outspoken Anglican priest Errington Massiah has called on Government to "do something". At the same time, he dismissed as "nonsense" a charge by chairman of the Child Care Board, David "Joey" Harper, that the church was failing its mandate and was no different to the secular world. Massiah complained that while the church was observing the Lenten season, many Barbadians were partying, as photos of Saturday's Calypso Spektakula show at the National Stadium proved. The show, which attracted hundreds of calypso fans, involved Barbadian and Trinidadian top entertainers. Massiah said the people of Trinidad and Tobago, a predominantly Roman Catholic society, observed Lent. "They jump and they prance up to Ash Wednesday," he added. "Then they shut it down. And they observe the Lenten season. And they come to Barbados." He declared: "I blame the (Barbados) Government. The Government has to do something. The Government will issue work permits. When they (entertainers) come in and they don't have no work permit, how are they going to perform? "What about those people who live around the National Stadium and those surrounding districts who want to prepare, who want to observe Lent, and the music going, going, going?" Source:
