DEATH ON THE JOB
$500???? That can't even buy a proper corsage for de man to get bury wid. But wait, he getting buried in Guyana... ooohhhh.... well that should pay for everyting then, and lil bit leff back for some drinks and super white rice. Poor Guyanese man... barely trying to make life better for his family... probably took any job he could get, worked for less than market wages, was poorly equipped with the wrong tools, and was exploited by a shady bastard. (of course i am assuming he was working here legally). That's hard man.. thing is, I can't even blame the contractor too much for seeking cheap labour to trim de tree, cuz last time a bajan removed 1 or 2 branches, it did cost $11,000 up front, and de rest on completion. But people does feel that as you come from a country with lower wages or currency, dem could treat you as dem like. But don't worry, he gine get what coming to he... black bird does fly high but can not live in the sky... i dont know what that gotta do wid anything, but it think it sounds cool. He should gotta take care of that whole family now, send school de children and service de wife 3 times a day. My condolences to the family.A 37-year-old man fell 25 feet to his death after he was hired by a contractor to trim trees near Super Centre supermarket, Sunset Crest, St James, last Saturday. Reports suggested that Lalchand Chateram, of Connell Town, St Lucy, was electrocuted although this has not been confirmed by police, or a post mortem. Chateram left Guyana in January for a better life for himself and his family in Barbados. He left behind his wife Jasmin Jehoo and daughters Rosy, 11, and Sandy, nine. His grieving sister Vidya Chaitram and her brother-in-law Abdool Razack said the family was upset that the contractor had paid them only $500 in compensation. They said they would be taking legal action to secure adequate compensation for their loved one's death.
Speaking to the DAILY NATION yesterday from the home of family friend Rahim Bacchus Jnr, who is also an attorney-at-law, Chaitram said her brother left home around 5:45 a.m. Saturday. Around 9 a.m., she received a telephone call from a friend with the news that Lalchand had fallen from the tree he was hired to trim and was on his way to hospital. She and Abdool hurried to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, but when they got there, he was dead....A crew from the Barbados Light & Power (BL&P) finished trimming the tree.Source:
*After reading this post, 32 persons will ask why de contractor aint call BL&P in the first place. Wuh if de man could offer the greiving family $500 compensation, wuh I don't think he even knows what BL&P stands for. Probably thinks it is where OWEN works.
