Artistes: Cut out negative messages

Funny Barbados News BlogARTISTeS are working with the National HIV/AIDS Commission to urge those in the entertainment industry to take responsibility for their role in promoting sexual activity that can lead to HIV/AIDS. "The world is not the same because of HIV/AIDS. Let me narrow it down to Barbados. Young women in particular between 15 and 25, the percentage of HIV/AIDS is startling. In fact, it is second to sub-Sahara Africa," explained AJA, co-ordinator of the CORE group. He added that artistes were playing a part in that statistic, but that some of them believed they were not responsible for what people did. "That is the perception of a lot of people. In fact that is the perception of some of the deejays. That irresponsible attitude cannot work," he said. AJA mentioned that Crop-Over unintentionally "is seeming to generate negative . . . cultural patterns and certain attitudes and lifestyles". The AIDS Commission, with the Division of Youth Affairs, conducted a study last year which showed that 85 per cent of the island's youth said soca promoted sexual activity through its lyrics, while a similar percentage stated that DJs at fĂȘtes and parties strongly influenced youths to have sex.Source:
Ok.. tell the DJ's to stop playing sexually provocative music... but what are they going going to play, and who gine listen to it? So I guess there will be no Party Monarch this year, since that kind of music influences one to wuk up on a bumper and juck.. and stab.. and juck.. and stab. But all this gine do is lead to less bajan music being played on the radio and more North American music coming in... i mean who doesn't like to hear Beyonce telling you to come and check up on it? But i guess they do have a point... with songs like Holiday Inn and Candy Shop, any man who wasn't thinking about finding 2 or 3 girls to lick his lolly pop in a hotel room gotta be studying it now. But that kind of music only takes hold when there is no one else of significance telling you the right things... so all you got is the negative things at your disposal to act on. But it's all about selling music.. check how one minute Sizzla was singing Black Woman and Child... and next minute he telling you to Pump Up Her Poom Poom. You remember when they tried to stop people from doing dixie by bringing in the wuk up police... 3 jucks and you're out!

*After reading this post, 238 persons will say that music doesn't influence them. Then they will claim how they are in love with a stripper.. she poppin, she rollin',she rollin'.. she climbing that pole and 'n
