Highway robbers, says Reid

"UNSCRUPULOUS" businesses and individuals not paying taxes and other monies owed Government, have been criticised by Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Esworth Reid. According to him, some people have not only refused to pay their part of the hundreds of millions of dollars owed Government, but they have written bounced cheques and make no attempt to resolve the matter when called by the relevant agency. Reid also charged that individuals and corporate citizens either working on their own or "joined" with "foreign exporting establishments" have devised "devious schemes at the port to rob Government of revenue" by underinvoicing consignment of goods so as to pay less duty and make "excess profits" at the expense of the consumer....He also described as "irresponsible and unpatriotic Barbadians who are in fact short-changing themselves and the rest of the society" those individuals, including the self-employed who either did not file their taxes, fixed it to show they made less profit or a loss, and corporate businesses which try to "short- change" the tax collector. Nothing is certain but death and taxes... well that is not entirely true... they are pretty close to developing a pill so we can live forever... of course you would be 843 and reduced to a hairy lump on a bed, but at least the kind machine is breathing on your behalf. I suppose she demonstrates how creative you can get with a walking stick and a tutu. Taxes all round, Duties, Levy, CESS, V.A.T, Income Tax, N.I.S, P.A.Y.E, F.A.C.K Tax and Road Tax. You working, giving all your money to the tax man and still can't even feel he up when de nights come. And of course all kinda big businesses getting tax breaks when the small man getting cuff in he throat if he $2 short. Thing is, most people dont mind paying a lil tax on stuff they import, but de customs man does grease yuh up and have his way, then leff yuh walking bow-leggid. So now de man dat pay tax and then trying re-sell got bare problems, cuz you know bajans... "I see that DVD on Amazon for $15, you got it very expensive! $75? Cawwww!" Right right, but buddy, realize that I had to add on $10 shipping, $48.95 TAX, $1 profit and $0.05 for a decent plastic bag for you to put it in... so I gine gotta sell another 1,199 uh dese DVDs to pay my rent this month... today is the 28th and you is customer number 2. Of course he gine leff you and go and get de same DVD duty free from Cave Shepherd... Oh lawd.. gotta go and rob somebody now. No boh, next time, de DVD gine get declare at 10cent... in fact, it's not even a DVD, it's really a fancy orange juice coaster / frisbee combo that i got off eBay. Any direction you take, government grinding yuh long and hard... nuff jucks and stabs like it is kadooment and yuh in a cheese cutta wine... leff yuh frazzle out. Pay de people taxes hear? I also advise you to jump in a well, pierce your eyeball and put your twinkie in a pirhanna tank. Yes, do as i say. :D

*After reading this post, 843 persons will pay all their taxes and be a good citizen. They will then fall sick and gotta wait long long long before that N.I.S cheque dim dem door.
