Penal pressure

Funny Barbados News BlogAttorney-General Dale Marshall yesterday admitted that a web-published story told by former inmate Terrence Donaldson reflected negatively on Barbados' penal institution. But he said that Donaldson's allegations, including those about the fire on March 29, 2005, were exactly what the Commission of Enquiry, which will soon be set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire that destroyed Glendairy Prisons, would be examining.... Donaldson, a British national who served three years at Glendairy Prisons and Harrison Point on drug-related offences, has written a detailed and graphic tell-all about conditions at both places on a web site associated with a support service for foreign prisoners. The former prisoner painted a sordid picture about life in prison and added that drugs and homosexuality were prevalent at Glendairy.
"If the contents are true," Marshall said, "it will certainly be very damaging to our image."....In relation to statements by Donaldson about rampant drug use and drug smuggling at Glendairy, the Attorney-General said that attempts were also being made to smuggle drugs into Harrison Point, but said there were extensive security checks there. While pointing out that work was progressing on the new prison at Dodds, Marshall said there would be a very high level of security there aimed at stamping out a number of the same things mentioned in Donaldson's article. "...De first prisoner to get juck did name NOOK NOOK... i does laff.. ha ha ha ha" - Mr. Dale -
Well well well... this aint nuttin new. How come when these things are brought to light, all a sudden the Minister does be JUST STARTING to try to stamp it out? Men did b*lling in this Penis Penal Institution fuh yeeears. Lets face it, it is part of the prison culture. What you telling me at all? That Jippy could be accused of having relations with a young girl years ago, somewhere behind God's back, and then be dragged to court to face charges, yet still a man getting shaft in prison cell block 69 every tuesday and you dont know nuttin bout it? Even when we talk about prison, we hint at these immoral acts... "Boy! I would BUST your face and go up prison and SIT DOWN fuh you!"... What you feel he gine to sit down on? I remember when they were debating whether to distribute condoms in prison. Ridiculous! It's like giving the violent criminals guns that have SHELL CATCHERS so they don't litter the streets when dem rattling off guns shots, or free silencers so they could keep the noise level down. Dem aint want to stamp out nuttin, cuz the persons in and around it are benefitting from it. Cuz as you gine start charging and punishing prisoners for buggery, one or fifty of de same guards might end up facing the law courts for fudge packing. De drugs too, how de bird drugs could end up in prison unless they want them to? It's PRISON! Iron doors, guards, security... you cuh catch a man teefing mauby from a corner store in St. Philip but can't stop drugs from entering through the prison gates? Mek muh laff do. *After reading this post, 348 former inmates will want to go back into prison since it is easier to get drugs on the inside.
