Bajan bites way into record book

NYRON WEEKES tasted sweet victory yesterday when he broke the Guinness World Record for the Fastest Time To Eat A 12-inch Pizza at the first Barbados World Record Festival.
The small but enthusiastic crowd gathered at the National Stadium from 10 a.m., supported both Weekes and fellow challenger Shawn Marshall down to the last bite but, in the end, Weekes emerged the victor with a new record of two minutes, 58 seconds....
Co-ordinator of the event, Qaasen Sealy said Barbados would benefit from the exposure because any new record was sent to every media house in the world.
He expressed disappointment that the Barbados Tourism Authority did not see the tourist potential in the festival, adding it would attract visitors to the island as it grew. His disappointment also extended to the public, who did not fully support the event, as was evident by the sparse numbers....."I'm quite disappointed with the exposure. We advertised but Barbadians by nature are a very reserved people. Unfortunately, the only thing we are not reserved about is feting," he said, thanking sponsors Seven Seas, Supligen, Pizza Man Doc, Atlantic Submarines and Cloister Book Store for stepping up to the plate.Source: Nation News

Man ate a 12inch pizza in less than 3 minutes.... interesting, I know a woman who can do amazing things with 12 inch objects too, where is her exposure? Well, this is sure to put Barbados on the map... strangely enough, there have been more searches this week for the prison story of Donaldson than the fastest pizza eater... well I guess now they know about Barbados too. Tourist potential in the festival? Umm.. I guess if I won 2 tickets to go on a Cruise to Alaska, i would have to burn them... can't miss the pizza eating festival in Barbados boh, too much action.

Man say only thing bajans come out to is fetes... so why he aint hold a pizza eating fete? A free slice of pizza for every man, it worked for Guinness. Most of these records are set simply cuz no one else is stupid enough to try them. Fastest 50 metres walking on tin cans??? How about something more realistic.. like most foam in a toilet bowl after peeing? Or stinkest fart that killed the most young children? Oh well, they say no publicity is bad publicity... so if the world thinks that bajans are lickrush greasy mout bastards, then so be it!
