More in store for disabled
Dem tell me to find at least one good story to write about... i'm sure i did sometime back... i believe it is right next to the needle, in this haystack of posts. Well, here is goody goody two shoes post number 2.. :) Seems government has a divine vision to actively assist the disabled in Bimshire. Great, Excellent, Fantastic! Here we have the Prime Minister with his ususal promises, similar to the one he offered up to Oba with much praise and thanksgiving. But of course to get anything actually done, we gine gotta blow this trumpet every 2 days.. to keep him on his toes, or it gine get lost under de bed like that small piece of the condom wrapper you bite off and spit out. That is one thing we in bim don't do too well... follow up! I guess since the differently-abled aren't really in our face everyday, and the disabled parking spots at the supermarket are usually empty (oooo so tempting), we tend to forget they exist... then again, they can't risk coming out. It's like putting a slug in a box and lining the street with salt, and then wondering why he ain't outside sliding bout and enjoying de breeze. I still want to see a strategic plan of what they are looking to do within the next 1-2 years, cuz that money might disappear and somebody on top will have a huge Hummer SUV, claiming that dem foot too long and dem need space. Oh well, I hope this suffices as a positive post which highlights that Barbados is ready and willing to change certain practices and improve infrastructure to assist those who are less able... Now that I have satisfied 2% of my readership, I will continue to share my disgusting opinion and poke fun of other things. MUAHAHAHAHAHA :) ahem.GOVERNMENT has promised people living with disabilities more money and access to employment. Prime Minister Owen Arthur made the announcement while officially opening Harambee House, the new home of the Barbados Council for the Disabled (BCD), on Friday April 7, at the Garrison, St Michael. "This morning, I bring you the message that the Government of Barbados fully supports your effort, and pledges to continue its initiative to ensure that persons with disabilities can live productive lives in conditions of dignity in our society. "One of the most important ways that the government can assist is by removing the spectre of financial uncertainty that has always hung over the affairs of the Council. As a result the subvention to the Council in this year's estimate of expenditure has been increased to $325 000 to meet the full operating costs of running the administrative affairs of this centre," he said. In the capacity as Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, he pledged that government "with each succeeding year would meet the full cost of operating the centre."... "Persons with disabilities must now be offered a wider opportunity to prove themselves and be able to compete on a level playing field free from discrimination and exploitation," he said.
