Water bills 'last' to be paid

BARBADIANS are less inclined to pay their water bill than any other utility bill. According to Denis Yearwood, general manager of Barbados Water Authority (BWA), they believe that water "is a gift from God" and should be free.... "The water bill is many times more likely not to be paid than the bills of other utilities. This has led to the unattainable situation where arrears owed to the BWA are staggeringly high and about 70 per cent of these arrears are from ordinary domestic consumers," he said. He warned that Barbados' water resources were not limitless; in fact, he stressed the island was a "water scarce" country..... "This has lead to a presumption that water availability is limitless which in turn has evolved into a culture of waste. Leaving the taps running while brushing one's teeth, keeping the shower flowing while soaping one's skin, leaving the kitchen tap on to go and answer the telephone are common habits among Barbados households," he urged. Water woes... i got ONE question... How he know who does leave the shower flowing while soaping their skin? He did peeping? I blame the solar hotwater system manufacturers though... we need to find something which spits out the water at the perfect temperature... Have you ever been in the shower and fiddling with those God forsaken hot and cold taps? Sskkhhhh! Too hot.. brrrr...too cold.. aahhhh.. just right... then you want me to TURN IT OFF? Talk chalk. Well, I guess it is difficult to grasp why we have to pay for water... I mean it's something that falls from the sky for free and then they sell it to you. It's like picking donks from my yard and charging me $2 a bag... plus $0.30 more if i want salt. The real reason why the water bill isn't being paid is because dem don't CUT IT OFF! That time all these people who owing on water bills mussy got the highest MCTV package. Can't blame them, it is essential to watch every episode of Everybody Hates Chris... brushing your teeth is just a luxury.
