Physio staff sick-out

Funny Barbados News BlogTHE PHYSIOTHERAPY DEPARTMENT of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) was closed yesterday following a sick-out by staff there. A statement from the QEH said the staff took the action over security concerns. The action follows a violent incident at the QEH last week which left two staffers with injuries. The statement noted that Chief Executive Officer Winston Collymore wrote to each member of the Physiotherapy Department indicating he welcomed any suggestion that might reduce the risk of such incidents in the future. The CEO held a meeting with the department, during which three issues were raised. It also said Collymore gave the assurance that all demands would be reviewed and implemented immediately. The hospital said it made all efforts to contact patients of the department to reschedule appointments. Where that was not possible, patients were offered transportation back home.
