More training needed in tourism industry

Funny Barbados News BlogManagers need to focus greater attention on training their employees, if they wish higher levels of productivity. Speaking at the Intimate Hotels of Barbados, annual general meeting, Director of the Hospitality Institute Mrs. Bernice Crichlow-Earle says that in the tourism industry where service is a priority, competent employees are necessary and training is therefore vital. Well training and knowledge is one thing.. when the staff are ignorant, miserable and constantly on their period, this is something completely different. Man bajans ain't want training, dem want beating. Everytime they do not provide good service... *whacks*! Try and serve de body properly man! But why is the focus always on the tourism industry? I hear one time the minister of tourism went to Parkinson school and tell the kiddies how dem gotta treat the tourists good. Amm.. as opposed to who? Before he tell the children to treat persons with respect and courtesy, he singling out tourists... barely want a hard cuff. So I guess the minister of agriculture should come out and say, "Kids, don't throw carrots in the road. You can throw cans, bottles, plastic bags and anything else really... but if it grows on a tree, it's a no no".
Man Barabdos just struggling when it comes to service... I will start judging the service industry by my Chefette experiences. When I can go in there and don't have to wait 20 minutes for a Chicken Breast Sandwich, nor listen to the cashier talk about how she do de dog at the boatyard last week, I will know that we have made a weeee bit of improvement.
